Question 1

Diplomacy. It might seem like a bit of an obvious one but I think that many political appointees lack this fundamental skill. Think about that for a moment; these supposed diplomats lack the skill of diplomacy. And these are our elected officials. It's crazy. I think I have the skill to some degree. In my time as Head Teacher, I have needed to manage and coordinate people, and I've found being diplomatic helps in that. I acknowledge that I could be better at it though.

Question 2

Donald Jon Trump, aka "The Donald". What a ridiculous name. Fitting for such a ridiculous president, I suppose. How long has he been president? That's easy – too long! He won against Hillary Rodham Clinton in the 2016 US election. I have no idea why he won as Clinton won by the popular vote.

Question 3

I think the number of Trump supporters the world over are in the vast minority. Vast. I think the people of Japan, the country in which I live, the people of Australia, the land of my birth, and pretty much the rest of the planet have a starkly negative image of him. They see him as a cartoon character at best and as a very dangerous and evil man at the worst.

Question 4

I couldn't begin to choose one from the cornucopia of possible choices available to us. I will say if he is still president when you read this, just turn on the TV nearest to you. I'm sure there will be a story on the news about something new and terrible he has done.

Question 5

The Prime Minister of Japan right now is Shinzo Abe. Is he the premier? I don't know anything about his politics really but he is outwardly a very different sort of person than Donald Trump. He seems more dignified and presidential, and he seems infinitely more intelligent.

Question 6

In 2015, I would have probably said George W. Bush has been the most deplorable President of the United States in my lifetime. That honor now belongs to Donald J. Trump. I can't image a worse person will fill the office in the next century.

Tough Vocabulary

- English - - Japanese -
appointee 任命者
fundamental 基本的
to some degree ある程度
acknowledge 認める
ridiculous ばかげた
vast 広大
stark ひどく

Question 1

I am looking for someone who can remain cool, calm, and collected in times of pressure and stress. I do not want someone who flies off the handle as my country's leader. I think I am ok under pressure, but I do not have the type of stress that a prime minister or president must endure.

Question 2

Donald Trump is the president of The U.S.A, I think he became president in 2016 (?). He was campaigning against Hillary Clinton who is Bill Clinton's wife. In my opinion, he won because Hillary kept changing her opinion and policies while Trump remained pretty constant.

Question 3

In New Zealand, people were surprised that he won, but neither happy nor unhappy. I think people admire what he has achieved in his life, but at the same time, concerned about some of his personal beliefs.

Question 4

I think calling COVID-19 the "China Virus" was a BIG faux pas. It sounds like he is trying to get everyone to think that the COVID-19 virus is solely China's fault. I have seen no evidence that would prove that China deliberately infected it's own citizens and the rest of the world with this deadly virus.

Question 5

Abe Shinzo is Japan's current prime minister. I do not know much about him and his life. His personality is not as flamboyant as Trump's.

Question 6

For me the worst President of The U.S.A has been George W. Bush. He was not president material in my opinion due to his lack of intelligence and the poor way in which he spoke in public. I do not think that he legally won the election against Al Gore.

Tough Vocabulary

- English - - Japanese -
cool, calm, and collected 構成された
flies off the handle あなたの気性を失う
endure 耐える
faux pas 失言
deliberately わざと
flamboyant 華やか

Question 1

I think to be a true leader you must have experience being a leader. It could be the head of your class, captain of a sports team, or captain of your school's debate team.

Question 2

Donald Duck. He has been president since the 2016 election. He ran against Hilary Clinton(Democrat). He won because a) He has a lot of money and(b) he campaigned in middle-America. Some people also speculate that sexism also played a big role in his win.

Question 3

I honestly don't really know. I watch CNN and BBC news and I trust some of them. There is currently a pandemic in the world right now and Trump is being criticized for how he is handling the situation. I'm guessing that most Americans are frustrated and in fear of what their future will become. Americans are receiving a stimulus check for the coronavirus now for 1,200$

Question 4

HAHA! There is a "laundry list". I will give you three. #1. his hair. #2. his misunderstanding and pronunciation of the English language as a world leader. #3. the way that he treats women is disgraceful. #3b he has never held public office!

Question 5

Abe. They seem to get along ok during meetings, I think Abe understands the importance of having good political and trade ties with the U.S., but I don't think Abe truly respects him as a person.

Question 6

Bill Clinton. He was a born leader. Incredibly charismatic. He was able to ride the wave of a domestic boom in the economy and get away with a public affair at the same time.

Tough Vocabulary

- English - - Japanese -
leader 盟主
campaign 運動
pandemic パンデミック
frustrate 欲求不満
stimulus 刺激
public office 公共のオフィス
respect 尊敬
charasmatic カリスマ的
a big role 大きな役割
