  1. What were you afraid of as a child? Why? How old were you when you had this fear? Looking back, do you think it was silly to be afraid or are you still afraid today?
  2. A phobia is an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something. There are many recognised phobias, often with long and difficult to pronounce names. Go online and find one then tell us about it. What is the name of this phobia? What is it a fear of?
  3. Tell us about someone you know or someone you have heard about who has a strange, funny or unusual fear. This can be yourself, a friend, a family member, a co-worker, a classmate or a celebrity.
  4. People often seek out scary situations, such as riding rollercoasters or watching scary movies, to give themselves a thrill. Name one such activity. Do you like to engage in this activity? If so, tell us about it. If not, why not?
  5. What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever done? Why did you do it? Are you glad you did it or is it something that you regret?
  6. What is the scariest situation you can imagine being in? Why? What would you do if you found yourself in this situation?

Question 1

I am afraid of jellyfish since when I was a child. I remember developing this fear when I was around 8 or 9 years old. I still hold this fear, although I can look at them on TV or in an aquarium, I will not touch or swim with them.

Question 2

I have heard of Disneyphobia, although I do not know if it is a certified and legitmate medical phobia. It is when someone is scared of Disney things.

Question 3

I knew someone who was afraid of button holes. He has no idea why and I have never come across anyone else with a fear like it.

Question 4

I like to watch scary movies and tv shows. I find them entertaining and interesting.

Question 5

I think travelling to India when I was 17 was the scariest. I had never done much travelling by myself before that time and I learned a lot.

Question 6

For me the scariest situation is someone kidnapping one of my children. I would be powerless and I think I would panic a lot.
