Question 1

A movie that I watched last year left me both amazed and sad at the same time. The movie's title is "The House Where the Mermaid Sleeps" (人魚の眠る家) and the protgonist of that movie is a very famous actress, Shinohara Ryoko. It's a really good movie because I personally like thought-provoking movies that present dilemmas for the audience to think about. Another movie that I think is exceptional was released two years ago in 2018 titled "Kasane" (累). This particular movie was amazing because of two things - the storyline and the actresses' amazing performace. I became a huge fan of Tao Tsuchiya after watching Kasane! The last movie that I think deserves to be mentioned here is one by Hirokazu Koreeda, titled "Shoplifters" (万引き家族). This movie was eye-opening and deserves an award for its originality. It makes you think what family really means and how other people view life as Japan's outcasts.

Question 2

My favorite movie is an anime produced by Studio Ghibli titled "Grave of the Fireflies" (火垂るの墓). It came out in 1988, 8 years before I was born. The movie is about two siblings who struggles to survive during the end of WWII. It was one of the first animes that I watched and I will never ever forget this movie.

Question 3

The two main characters, Seita (14 years old) and Setsuko (6 years old), are very iconic. I would say that the two characters represent a greater number of people who suffered greatly from the second world war.

Question 4

Isao Takahata is the director of this movie. He has made multiple legendary animes such as "The Tale of Princess Kaguya" and "My Neighbors the Yamadas."

Question 5

I have seen "Grave of the Fireflies" at least three times. The movie is so fascinating and emotional. It never fails to make me feel for the charcters in the movie, which eventually breaks my heart and left me weeping.

Question 6

A movie that very much disappointed me is one that was released in 2017, which is a live-action of an anime called "death note." The characters, setting, and plot were just inaccurate and the movie developed really badly. I actually stopped watching in the middle of the movie. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!
