Question 1

I temporarily moved out of my parents' home when I went to college. I was 16 years old that time. My university was a 3-hour bus ride from my hometown so we decided that I should just rent an apartment near my campus.

Question 2

I think most Japanese move out of their parent's home when they go to college. As for the gender difference, I've heard that there was a custom before that the eldest son usually inherits the family house so he's in charge of taking care it for the whole family. I'll have to confirm if this custom still exists.

Question 3

The biggest advantge for me is having to share the living expenses and the housechores. I grew up with my elder sister so we usually took turns dealing with daily tasks.

Question 4

There are moments when you need privacy especially when you want to invite friends over. I didn't want to inconvenience other family members when I inivite people over so we'd usually just hang out in our patio.

Question 5

The concept of multigenerational homes used to be very common in the Phillipines . The idea of moving out at a young age was slightly frowned upon before because they'd interepret it as being ungrateful. Now, it's taken more positively and parents are proud that their children are responsible enough to live independently.

Question 6

I want to move to the countryside. Maybe somewhere in the southern islands since I dread the cold winter season. A single-detached house that has a convenient location to the local grocery and the park seems ideal for me.

Question 1

I first moved out of my parents' house on my 18th birthday. I had always wanted to be more independent. I moved in with a friend and lived there for less than a year. I decided to move back home because I was going to college and it was easier to stay with them for a while.

Question 2

I don't know, but I'm sure it is much later than in the US. Many Americans move out quickly once they become adults. I think it is the same for men and women. I lived with several different friends and a boyfriend before leaving the US to come to Japan.

Question 3

I didn't like being alone before, but right now I really enjoy it. My apartment is much cleaner and I don't have any stress. It's so nice to wake up and sleep any time I want without hearing the noise of another person.

Question 4

The only disadvantage I see is loneliness. If I feel lonely I go out to see my friends. I like to go to cafes or sightseeing with them.

Question 5

I think when my parents were young most people moved out to go to college (live on campus) or to get married. I feel like younger people now like to have independence, like I did.

Question 6

I recently moved to Yamatotakada from Osaka. I moved here because I wanted to live in a small town, away from the big city, but not too far. I also moved here because I really like English-Please! I also love my apartment here. It is so much nicer than my place in Osaka and has better amenities for the same price!
