EY Y03 L01 Smartphones

This week’s Questions

  1. Do you have a smartphone? If yes, there are broadly speaking two types of smartphone; Android and iPhone ('iOS'). Which do you use? Why? If no, why not?
  2. These days, we tend to refer to programs, software and applications as 'apps'. Which of these do you do on your phone; cooking, banking, exercising or measuring health, messaging, talking, reading the news, social networking, amateur photography, remote working, learning, navigating, shopping, managing devices around the home? Which do you not do? (Note : if you don't have a smartphone, which of these, if any, do you do on a personal computer?)
  3. Which carrier (Softbank, NTT docomo, AU, Rakuten etc.) do you use? Why? (Note : if you don't have a smartphone, which of these companies, if any, would you choose? Why?)
  4. Which apps, if any, did you pay to download or do you pay a subscription for? Are you happy with the money you’ve spent or do you have any regrets? Why?
  5. In the modern age it is often difficult to imagine living without our smartphone. Tell us about a time when you have felt your smartphone was invaluable. (Note : if you don't have a smartphone, have you ever been in a situation where you wished you had a smartphone?)
  6. We are heading into an age where more of the things around us can communicate with our phones and personal computers. Tell us about an appliance or device that you have connected to or would like to have connected to your phone (for example; a watch, clothes, a home appliance, speakers, a doorbell, bathroom scales, a camera, a car, a bicycle, a television, a lock, a lamp or light).
