Question 1

The last time I went to a supermarket was about one week ago. I went to Kinsho. I usually go to this chain as it is the one that is closed to my home and my son's day care.

Question 2

I think I spent around two thousand yen as I bought some lunch for my wife, sons, and myself. It was a positive experience as the supermarket was not overly crowded at that time.

Question 3

I do not go a lot as my wife does the majority of the household shopping.

Question 4

Sometimes I buy items that are on discount as they are due to expire.

Question 5

Yes, I have. New Zealand supermarkets are much bigger than in Japan. I imagine that supermarkets in some other countries are dirtier than Japanese ones.

Question 6

Yes, I did my shopping online when I broke my ankle. I do not know why Japanese supermarkets have gone online as it is common in New Zealand.

Question 1

I went to a supermarket last Sunday (31/01). It's the supermarket that I always go to, Gyomu-sūpa! It is actually one of the only supermarkets that I go to as everything is sold in large quantities very cheaply. Most of the staff know me as they often see me buying plenty of food to stock up for the week. The prices are very reasonable and I have never had any negative experience shopping at Gyomu-sūpa.

Question 2

I spent around 4000 yen on this week's groceries. I bought a wide range of meat and vegetables such as beef, pork, chicken, fatty salmon, mackerel, cabbages, broccoli, spinach, tofu, and onions. Shopping at Gyomu-sūpa is always a good experience as I feel like I've saved a lot of money by buying things in large quantities/bulk.

Question 3

I go to the supermarket at least once a week. I usually buy my groceries for the week on Sundays or Mondays to avoid having to shop multiple times during the week. Since fresh meats in Japan don't last long (three to five days), I sometimes freeze them to extend their "life."

Question 4

My weekly grocery shopping routine, for me, is the ultimate way of cutting down food costs. Buying things in bulk and getting items at discounted prices prove to have saved me a lot of money. I also have multiple supermarkets that I keep an eye on for last-minute discounts. I found that Sundi (サンディ)and Seiyu supermarkets offer incredibly cheap meats and frozen items during specific times of the week and day.

Question 5

I have been to supermarkets in more than 20 countries. One of my hobbies while traveling is to check out the local items that people usually buy. It's fascinating to see the kind of products that residents of a particular country or city purchase. I find supermarkets in Australia and Germany to be very interesting. Taking an example, milk in Australia comes in a large gallon that is a very rare sight in Japan. When I was living with my uncle in Melbourne, we used to buy a lot of fruit to include beneficial vitamins in our diet. They're very cheap and affordable for everyone; quite the opposite for the case of Japan where fruits are incredibly expensive.

Question 6

I have done my grocery shopping online in Barcelona. It was very convenient, however, the extra delivery cost was rather expensive. It also felt very different in terms of browsing through the things and checking out new items individually. That is probably why supermarkets have not gone online. There's just a unique feeling of perusing through different items in a supermarket and purchasing them with the assistance of a cashier. I personally much prefer shopping in real life rather than browsing through items on a smartphone to be delivered to my house.
